Society faces security breaches, terrorism, and other nefarious activities daily, forcing organizations to implement and enhance existing Electronic Access Control Systems (EACS) in their environments. As a result of higher utilization, today’s solutions have migrated from the traditional use case of being a platform that reduces risk to a key enabler and secure data source for a businesses’ daily operations and strategic planning. Electronic locking systems are now being integrated seamlessly into operations with new API rich cloud services to provide enterprises a cost-effective means to improve efficiencies throughout organizations. Although traditional EACS offer a significant advantage for businesses in all the sectors, there are numerous barriers to its adoption. Issues related to data security and privacy, integration with advanced technologies, and lack of understanding of the business benefits are few among the many challenges pertaining to its successful implementation.
Set against this backdrop, SALTO Systems delivers world-class solutions that are simple to use and extremely efficient, giving users the ability to control all their access needs and secure all their doors without complicated and expensive wiring. “One of our greatest strengths is the ability to provide value in almost any application that requires control, regardless of the business type or role of the individual that interacts with the solution,” says Bill Wood, President of SALTO Systems North America.
SALTO creates solutions that meet clients’ needs by making them easy to use, install, and maintain—all without complicated and expensive infrastructure. The company’s wide range of access control solutions includes SALTOSPACE, powered by the SALTO Virtual Network (SVN), the data-on-card based solution that currently manages more than 35 million users across the globe and SALTO KS - Keys as a Service -a fast growing, wireless, API rich, cloud-based Access platform.
While everyone recognizes that traditional access control continues to grow in its use, most applications end after securing just 15-20 percent of the openings within a facility due to factors related to costs and complexity. Built to solve this, SALTOSPACE is a hybrid access control system, with a strong focus on wire-free electronic locks. While the user interface is browser-based, the solution is LAN/WAN based, behind the firewall. With this solution, customers can cost-effectively realize higher utilization of electronic access, often as high as 80+ percent of their openings—more than three times the “traditional” perimeter access control model.
SALTOSPACE provides the ability to blend online devices with wire-free devices to eliminate the need for mechanical keys, which reduces costs and increases security. “Our JustIN mobile technology is another unique feature that provides a mobile key solution coupled with unparalleled flexibility for administrators to provision, modify and audit employee, guest and vendor activities without the need for online connectivity at the doors, resulting in better user experience, higher security and lower costs” adds Wood.
One of our greatest strengths is the ability to provide value universally in almost any application that requires control, regardless of the vertical or role of the individual that interacts with the solution
SALTO’s fastest growing solution is SALTO KS (Keys as a service), a Cloud Based Access system, that leverages SALTO’s revolutionary hardware form factors while eliminating the necessity to provision servers, perform periodic updates allowing CIOs’ to save time and money. SALTO KS works with other cloud-based offerings to enable greater efficiencies and new experiences for their customers.
SALTO also enables customers to create their own cloud access control solution via SALTO’s KS Core API. This helps the customer’s developers to solely focus on the app, while SALTO looks after the infrastructure.”We provide the tools and support needed to integrate cloud-based smart locks to the existing business and product portfolios required within any given use case of the customer,” says Wood.
SALTO’s ability to provide such a broad range of options to meet the customer’s needs has helped them win many clients. A Salto KS Core example is International Workspace Group (IWG), the world’s largest provider of flexible workspace solutions. Before partnering with SALTO, IWG centers used a mix of mechanical locks and disparate card systems for office and building access control, and the lock and key management was completely manual.
IWG wanted to deploy an access control system globally for remotely managing the centers to achieve a smooth customer experience as well as to create enhanced network access control in the workplace for its customers. To address this need, IWG turned to SALTO’s KS Core API and XS4 series electronic locks to gain the ability to control building access remotely. The custom web and mobile solution delivered to IWG has improved their customer experience while significantly increasing meeting space optimization while streamlining operations.
With the SALTO’S Access Control application, IWG’S center staff could see and control access in their centers; detect who opened which doors, and when, instantly block tags to revoke access, grant an existing user custom access to space and let company owners manage access for their employees.
The future of SALTO is very promising as they anticipate delivering nearly one million locking devices into the market within a single year, a pretty significant milestone. Their continued success relies upon the enthusiastic and highly experienced team’s ability to remain focused on customer’s needs and plans. The company also plans to launch new products and solutions early next year that will again revolutionize the access control landscape.
